Retro Haul - The friend known as Rob - 12rd November 2012

Hey all,

Been a bit of a gap again since I last posted. 6 days - sorry folks! Been a busy few weeks with Christmas coming up, and Dan getting a new job.

Which means I've neglected to show you all the lovely things I have acquired via a friend from work (thanks Rob :D).

Nintendo 64!
Along with these games. I do already have an N64, but mine has really seen better days, having difficulty reading carts, after being purchased from my old video games retail workplace (although I salvaged a box that was like brand new whilst working there).

Some really cool games here! Especially liking the Pilotwings. Hope to post some sort of video of some gameplay in the near future, but this might have to wait until after Christmas.

Thanks Rob! They will be cherished in their new home of Hol-Dan retro haven  :)

Owe you a drink!

Timesplitters HD Collection?

Hey folks!

There's a petition for the Timesplitters games of the last console generation to be remade in HD for a Timesplitters HD Collection.

As you may or may not know, Free Radical (the developers of the Timesplitters series) went bust back in 2009. Crytek bought them out, but we are yet to see a sniff of Timesplitters 4.
CEO Cevat Yerli has stated that he would like to make a new Timesplitters but he doesn't know if demand for a game like Timesplitters would be great on the current generation.

Now this isn't a petition to get a Timesplitters 4 out there, but this petition might show Mr CEO of Crytek that there IS a demand, and make a Timesplitters 4 and IT WOULD BE AMAZING.

Sniffles and free XBLA titles

Not felt too great the past few days. Ill.

I wanted to blog some interesting news from the Timesplitters universe yesterday, but the restraints of illness held me back. I'm feeling a bit better now (fingers crossed that isn't the medicine talking), and the Timesplitters post will be shared shortly :)

When I saw that Xbox Live have the Kinect arcade game 'Wreckateer' currently available to download for free for the next 48 hours, I had to share it! It's quite a recent release, which tied into the 'Summer of Arcade' launch. Here's the trailer:

This is all in aid of the 10th birthday of Xbox LIVE. There are also a handful of Xbox LIVE Arcade titles for 50% off standard price.

Castle Crashers - 600 MSP (was 1200 MSP)
Fruit Ninja Kinect - 400 MSP (was 800 MSP)
Geometry Wars Evolved - 400 MP (was 800 MSP)
Bastion - 600 MSP (was 1200 MSP)
Peggle - 400 MSP (was 800 MSP)
Full House Poker - 400 MSP (was 800 MSP)

Full details of the offer can be found here.
A special 10th birthday message from the corporate vice president of Xbox LIVE can be found here. Includes some interesting statistics regarding Xbox LIVE usage!

Music from Games

So I was tending to a headache and minding my own business on Facebook, when I get a message from a friend telling me to tune into Classic FM.

Lo and behold, a whole menagerie of classical versions of
video game music  (composed by the London Philharmonic orchestra) flowed into my aural cavities, leaving me with a lovely nostalgic feeling. Here are a few videos taken from Youtube of tracks that were played:

Zelda

GTA IV (soviet)

MGS 2

Elder Scrolls: Oblivion

Now I don't necessarily agree with that list, but you can't have every single decent track on one album... Which is why the second album was released on 6th November 2012.

You can find the complete track list to the first and second albums (and also purchase) here.

Here is the unboxing video for the latest version of the Xbox 360. It's branded to the colours of Halo 4, which just so happens to be my most anticipated game of 2012. This can also be found on Youtube via my username SlinkyFISHY. Enjoy!

Got this fine piece of kit at a midnight launch in Leeds, which was sadly marred by the stores terrible organisation and rude employees. :(
Still - HALO!

Monday, 5 November 2012

So, the launch of Halo 4 is tonight.

I'm buying the console and will be posting an unboxing video here soon. In the mean time....

Retro Haul - Cash Generators - 23rd October 2012

So I thought I'd share my most recent purchase of retro goodness.

Found these beauties in a Cash Generator in Leeds, England. They were £2.99 each.
Rampage and Street Fighter 2 'Special Champion Edition' I would rate as a 2/5 and 3/5 for condition. Both are missing manuals, but the sleeves and cases are intact, and the cases close.

Sonic and Sonic 2... I own these guys a few times now - but if you find one in better condition you gotta have it, right? Sonic 2 I would rate at a 4/5, manual completely intact and undamaged, but is curled and case has a small scuff.

Sonic 1 has been cellophane wrapped by the previous owner. I've tried to keep it as intact as possible whilst opening, and boy was it a treat - new game smell hit me in the face like a wet fish. It was glorious. 5/5 for condition, not a blemish, although the manual and poster advertisement inside was very slightly curled.

All in all, an alright haul for Megadrive/Master System games.

An introduction

Hello one and all...

Welcome to the blog of Hollie, aka SlinkyFISH (and perhaps a little bit of Dan, my fiancé).

I'll be blogging various gaming ventures in the land of SlinkyFISH here. From taking a look at my gaming collection and others, to reviewing games and writing achievement guides.

A small insight into a smaller persons universe. Which is pretty much gaming, drawing and Dan.

That's me. Pulling a standard Hollie face, with a PS3 promotional sweatshirt on. It's how I roll.

Keep tuned guys!
